About the Role & Program
The ABC News Washington Bureau is dedicated to delivering comprehensive reporting and analysis of global affairs and national events, with a particular emphasis on politics across all ABC News programs and platforms. This internship encompasses both newsgathering and production, offering valuable insights into various teams, including:
- Global Affairs
- Pennsylvania Ave
- Assignment Desk/Digital
- Justice/ABC News Live
Interns will actively contribute to and support these teams, gaining hands-on experience in the dynamic intersection of news coverage and production!
What You Will Do
- Assisting in the daily editorial research, reporting and writing for all platforms with special emphasis on digital
- Supervising social content; locating and researching elements for broadcast pieces, placing reporting calls, and assisting our producers in the field at events/stakeouts
- Assisting with logging tape, and attending press conferences and hearings
- Helping with spot production – assisting on local shoots and in the edit room
- Opportunities exist for writing articles, and producing video shorts for dotcom/digital
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Proven curiosity about journalism, reporting, and/or intern experience in a newsroom
- Strong proficiency with MS Office Suite including Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Basic digital editing skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Strong familiarity with social media news outlets
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience generating story ideas and pitches
- Familiarity with CMS (content management systems)
- Knowledge/familiarity with major issues in politics and policy, justice, transportation and/or race and culture
Education
- Currently enrolled or graduated within the past six months from an accredited college/university, earning a degree majoring in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Film/Television or a related field
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
- Must be at least 18 years of age and possess unrestricted work authorization
- Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
- Must be able to work on-site in Washington, DC and have reliable transportation to/from work
- Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are June 2024 through January 2025. Candidate must be available to work 30 hours/week in Eastern Standard time for the duration of the internship- could include nights and weekends
