Remote within the US - Sector Analyst Intern

World Vision Internships provide a three-month opportunity for exceptional students and recent graduates ready to explore a career in the international relief and development sector. BEFORE APPLYING, make sure you meet the following requirements:

  • Able to commit to a minimum of 24 hours per week for the entire internship period: 20 May – 16 August. 
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must have a valid US Social Security Number.
  • Be physically located in one of the following states where WVI is registered as an employer: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia (Washington D.C.), Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.
  • Current student or recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within 2 years).
  • Adhere to World Vision International’s Christian Statement of Faith.
  • Willingness to use own electronic devices for internship purposes, and disposition to let WVI install endpoint security software on those devices.

DETAILS

  • Stipend: All US-based interns are paid a monthly stipend of $800
  • Hours: Full-time and part-time opportunities are available (24-40 hours/week)
  • Internship Location: Remote within the US (see eligible states above).
  • Appropriate Fields of Study/Majors: Background in Social Sciences, Political Science, International Business, Economics, Development, or related field.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

Visionfund (VF) is the microfinance arm of World Vision. It provides credit, insurance, and savings services to underserved communities around the world where World Vision works.

The VisionFund Strategy Team reviews, monitors, and shapes strategic decisions and supporting processes associated with investments across MFIs, initiatives, innovations, and impact. We are responsible for maximizing the reach and impact of World Vision's microfinance operations and VisionFund livelihood-related work.

The opportunity 

As a Sector Analyst Intern, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide sectoral and cross-sectoral analysis that will help our team identify, develop, and improve options, attributes, and decisions related to products and services offered to our target clients/beneficiaries in the markets we serve.
  • Learn about sectors, where VisionFund operates, significantly impacted by economic trends, climatic trends, technology, and regulatory change.
  • Work with regional staff across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

  • Make a lasting impact on the lives of the most vulnerable children.

The intern’s responsibilities will include:

  • Identify key advances by services and solutions providers within our sector and compatible sectors through reviews of industry data, reports, operating information, and relevant supporting data.
  • Perform internal analysis to facilitate comparisons and relative compatibility within our operational footprint.
  • Research programming in microfinance, livelihoods, poverty alleviation, food security, resilience, and child well-being-related services across a range of fragile and developing world contexts.
  • Create reports consolidating research/analysis into key projects and themes for deeper review by the strategy team or external contractors.

Essential qualities for this role:

  • You are interested in global operations
  • You have experience with written and oral communication skills with the ability to convey complex information appropriately to different audiences.
  • You have experience conducting online research and working with MS Office tools.
  • You are passionate about using your God-given talents to positively impact the world.
